Happy New Year, first of all. And although we are at the beginning of February and I have not written for a long time, it is worth congratulating the new year that is beginning. Wishing of course, that everything you set out to come true as well as having good health.
One of the reasons for the delay in the new article has obviously been the holidays and a mental break from my studies.
But I have also taken advantage of being able to calmly read a lot of information regarding the topic that gives the title to this article.
What I can assure without fear of being wrong is that AI's (artificial intelligence) have come to stay. Another thing is how they are developed, how we use them and what their impact will be, which I already anticipate will not be small.
But soon, it would be nice to know that it is an AI. According to the Wiki:
“Artificial intelligence is, in computer's science, the discipline that attempts to replicate and develop the intelligence and its implicit processes through computers”
As we can see, it is a very vague definition, but as it says a little later in the Wiki entry, there is no consensus on the complete definition. Which makes things a bit more difficult for us to understand, but let's see if we can figure it out.
What the AI's try to do is imitate our way of thinking, which is the most logical since, as their creators, we don't know any other way to do it, since we always try to replicate what we know. And therefore we try to imitate our way of thinking and logic.
Without going into more detail from the Wiki article itself, which deals with history, ethical and legal implications. We can say that AI's try to imitate our way of thinking, either through given examples or statistical analysis and human behavior.
Once defined what an AI is, what can it contribute to our lives?
Another question that would take us hundreds of lines, but to summarize let's explain some quick examples and applications:
1.- Increases efficiency
Either by completing part of our tasks, since you can learn from them, or by giving us that necessary inspiration to get us out of the block we were in.
2.- Advances in the field of autonomous driving.
Until now we depended on the sensors and the information that we had around us, by including AI's, it will be able to learn and adapt to the unique circumstances of the road in each case, removing the human factor and drastically reducing accidents.
3.- Massive data processing.
If we have seen that "Big data" has gained such importance to be able to find out our customs and apply it to all areas, be it business, leisure or health. With the incorporation of AI's, these analyzes will be more accurate, faster and will be able to work with more data, which will give better results.
4.- In education.
Being able to personalize the teaching to each student according to their ability and help the teacher to create better adapted plans. In addition to being able to incorporate a virtual tutor that supports teachers and students.
5.- The handling of sensitive information.
With a correctly programmed AI, we can be sure that it will analyze the data in a way that does not pose risks; banking, financial, etc.
6.- High precision work.
For example in health, being able to operate with greater precision than a surgeon. And no, I'm not saying that the AI operates alone, but a surgeon will be able to give instructions and the AI will execute them with a precision never seen before and impossible for a human.
7.- It will improve the HR of the companies.
You'll be able to unbiasedly screen job candidates, plus be able to work with vastly more candidates, ensuring no one is left unassessed.
8.- It will help to find a job.
They will be able to analyze the profile of oneself and analyze the network in search of jobs that suit the applicant's abilities, in addition to the fact that candidates will be able to express themselves in natural language and not simply put a list of anodyne information.
The AI's can be a threat?
Obviously the answer is affirmative, as any tool can be used in any way. Both for good and for bad.
By using AI's, they can displace a series of professions so that they disappear in favor of new technologies. Just like what happened with the printing press and the scribes gradually disappeared. But new professions also appeared; designers, editors, distributors, etc...
The other threat is where do you take the sampling data from? do you have permission from the creators?
These questions are currently the most questionable, especially with tools like Dall-e or Midjourney. Since they take samples from artists who are still alive and/or do not have their consent. Which creates copyright issues. Which coincidentally are presented in image and written formats since their respective associations and industry do not have as much power as the music industry, and in this case, the AI's their samples are based on freely licensed works or by deceased authors.
On the topic of programming or generating texts, which we have Chat-GPT as the maximum current exponent, we have more or less the same problem, but added to the fact that it also contains quite a few gross errors, but which in a first light reading gives very well I hit it.
Which leads us to the fact that even the AI's are not capable of supplying our work, and that a lot of supervision is needed, in the case of the artistic ones, they contain numerous errors with the hands, composition, etc… In the case of the textual ones, if it is in programming, they do not understand business logic or contain serious security "bugs". In literary disciplines, there is still a failure to understand the original idea and agreement.
There have already been several attempts to get them to pass university exams, and the AI's got a scratched pass, which means that they actually have the information but they still don't know how to concatenate it. example here.
Obviously, all this can change with the next generations of AI's, but what is clear is that with the current ones, productivity will be increased. And the safest (personal opinion), that the results and mediocre jobs will increase.
And with all this, there are already "countermeasures" type tools, that is, AI's that detect the use of other AI's, which will make the panorama more level. But effectively, everything will be seen to have to produce higher quality products and that these works will have to be supervised even more.
But on the other hand, the leap to being a creator or being able to stand out may be increasingly difficult, since the initial bar will be higher.
Undoubtedly, AI's are a challenge and at the same time a new opportunity, the problem will lie in knowing how to adapt and be able to take advantage of their capabilities, without losing our rights along the way.
